I have never heard of this book. Why should I spend an evening on it?
<p>You should not, on anybody's word. Read the 9 free scenes — 10,746 words, about an hour — and decide from the writing. That is the entire reason they are free, and the entire reason there is no card field in front of them.</p>
What exactly is free?
<p>The first 9 scenes, in the same reading room paying readers use. No account, no card, no email address. The book has 64 scenes and 65,984 words in total.</p>
What is the difference between the editions?
<p>Reader is the whole book and the whole narration. Odyssey adds the film — chapters as seasons, scenes as episodes — as it is made. Inner Circle is everything permanently, with direct access to the author while the work is being made.</p> <p>Nothing is held back in a lesser edition: every paid tier is the entire book. What changes is whether the film comes with it.</p>
Is the narration ready?
<p>Not yet. It is being recorded chapter by chapter, and every scene carries a marked stand-in until its real recording lands. Paid readers get each one as it is cut, at no extra cost, forever — you are never charged again for narration you were promised.</p> <p>The count on the site is the count of real recordings, never an estimate.</p>
Are the film episodes out?
<p>Not yet. The Odyssey edition exists so that people who want to be there while it is made can be — you get every episode the day it lands. If you would rather wait until episodes exist, take Reader now and move up later; nothing is lost.</p>
How do I cancel?
<p>One click, from <a href="/account/billing">your billing page</a>. No phone call, no form, no retention maze. It takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for, and your place, passages and notes are kept either way — they come back the moment you return.</p>
Where do I enter my card?
<p>Not here — that is deliberate. There is no card field anywhere on this site. Payment happens on Stripe's own page, and Stripe holds the card. This site never sees a card number, and cannot leak one it does not have.</p>
Can I read on my phone and my laptop?
<p>Yes. Sign in on both and your place, your kept passages and your notes follow you. That is what an account is for — the free scenes need no account at all.</p>
I paid and the book is still locked.
<p>Almost always this is the few seconds between Stripe taking the payment and telling us about it. Reload <a href="/library">the library</a> and it will be open.</p> <p>If it is still locked after a minute, write below with the email you paid with. Access is granted by Stripe's own confirmation, so if the payment went through, the access is owed to you and will be put right.</p>
What do you do with my data?
<p>We keep what signs you in and remembers your place. Analytics are off until you say yes, and the reject button is the same size as the accept button. What the author sees is aggregate — which scenes readers stop at — never one named person's highlights or reading time. You can export everything or delete the account from your account settings.</p>
Can I give this as a gift?
<p>Yes. <a href="/gift">Give it to someone</a> — you choose the edition, who it is for, and whether it reaches them today or on a date you pick. They get a code and a line from you; they redeem it at <a href="/redeem">/redeem</a>, and it lasts a year from the day it arrives.</p> <p>It is a single payment. A gift never becomes a subscription and you are never charged again.</p> <p>If they already have an edition, the gift is added on to the end of it rather than overlapping — nobody pays twice for the same fortnight.</p>
Do the prices change depending on where I live?
<p>Yes — Stripe presents each price in the currency of the country you are paying from. The figures on the editions page are in US dollars.</p>
