A line from SalsSky: The Chosen One
His entire world had narrowed to the reach of that one thin stick, tapping the rock ahead of each footfall.
On finding ground one step at a time
Sals is on a mountain path he cannot see. A blindfold cuts away sky and horizon. Wind carries nothing useful. The only information he has is a stick, a tap, and whether the stone answers back. His world has not just become small. It has become exact. Nothing exists except this reach, this sound, this moment before the next step.
There is something worth sitting with in that. Not the danger, but the clarity it forces. When everything is stripped away, attention has nowhere else to go. The tap either returns or it does not. He cannot plan for the whole path. He can only listen for the next inch of solid ground.
Most of us are not on a mountain with our eyes covered. But most of us know what it feels like when the world narrows under pressure. When the future goes quiet and the only honest unit of time is right now. Sometimes that narrowing is not a catastrophe. Sometimes it is the only way to move without lying to yourself about how much you can see.
What would it mean for you to trust just the next tap?
Pass it on
