A line from SalsSky: The Chosen One
His hands found the blindfold's knot, fingers clumsy with a panic he hadn't given permission to arrive.
On the panic that arrives without asking
Sals is standing on the edge of something vast. He has lost his footing. The dark behind the blindfold is total. Then the air shifts. Something warm and unfamiliar reaches him, not threatening, not comforting, just present. And that is what breaks him open. Not the void. Not the fall. The unexpected softness.
His hands move before his mind decides. The panic is already there, already working the knot. He hadn't invited it. He hadn't agreed to feel it. But the body keeps its own counsel.
Most of us know this. You hold yourself steady through the hard, obvious things. Then something small and gentle arrives, and something inside you gives way. The composure you built carefully, quietly, simply isn't there anymore. You didn't lose it. It was taken by something you couldn't have prepared for.
There is no failure in that. It only means you were present enough to feel what was real.
What is the unexpected thing that has lately moved you more than you thought it would?
