One of two men who arrive from Mayaimi and introduce themselves to Sals before anybody has explained why they are there. He does the talking. Courteous, unhurried, and entirely comfortable being the one who knows more than the room — which is a kind of power and is handled here as one, without the book ever calling it that. What he does not do is lie. That matters later, and it is worth noticing early how much of what he says is technically complete.
