A line from SalsSky: The Chosen One
Real, though nothing about it could be imagined or explained — simply present, the way an unasked question can refuse to leave a room.
On what stays when the fear has gone
Sals wakes from a dream that is already leaving him. The terror fades. His pulse settles. His body stands down. But something smaller, quieter, does not go with the fear. It is not dread. It is closer to a presence — the memory of a breeze, the feeling of a moment when certainty let go of him and left nothing in its place. He tries words. They do not quite work. He sits on the edge of his bed in the gathering grey light, and that thing simply stays. It does not announce itself. It does not explain. It is just there, the way a question can live in a room long after anyone stopped speaking.
You have probably known something like this. A feeling that survived the moment that caused it. A quiet residue that your usual explanations could not dissolve. It did not need you to understand it. It only needed you to notice it was there.
What is the thing in you right now that your words have not quite been able to settle?
Pass it on
