A line from SalsSky: The Chosen One
Without the stick, the dark behind the blindfold became total — no reference point, no direction, no sense of scale.
On losing the one thing that told you where you were
Sals is on a narrow mountain path, blindfolded, suspended between solid ground and open void. For days, a single stick has been his only way of knowing the world is still there beneath him. Then it slips. It falls. It does not stop. And in that moment, everything he has been using to locate himself — direction, distance, the simple fact of ground — is gone at once. The line notices what happens when the one small tool we trust to orient us disappears. Not danger, exactly. Something quieter than danger. Total exposure. No map. No edge to feel your way along. Just the open dark and the waiting.
Most of us carry a version of that stick. A routine, a role, a relationship, a certainty we reach for without thinking. We do not notice how much it is doing until it is no longer in our hand. And then the dark behind our own blindfold becomes complete.
What is the small, quiet thing you have been using to tell yourself where you stand?
Pass it on
